Zinc deficiency is a health issue among Iranian children, associated with complications such as a weakened immune system, increased risk of infections, growth disorders, and higher mortality. National surveys indicate that although the overall prevalence of zinc deficiency has decreased nationwide, it has increased significantly in some regions, such as the central and southern climates. Currently, there is no comprehensive program in the country to control this deficiency. This policy brief, by reviewing existing evidence and documentation, examines the scientific and operational feasibility of integrating a zinc supplementation program into the care plans for children aged 6–59 months covered by the country's health centers.
