Estimation of food poverty in Iran based on 2010 data

Background and Objective: In the situation that half of people are faced with starvation, shortage of qualitative and quantitative of nutritious and so many of children are dying weekly and some of them who are suffering from mentally retarded and physically form, aspect of deprivation shows itself in dimensions of economic, social, cultural and hygienic. The issue of poverty, methods of its measurement and especially deal with that is one of the main subjects has been attended by most governments and international organization such as the World Bank. The role of nutrition in health, increase of efficiency, learning and its relation with economic development has been proved during the investigation. In this regard, this study has checked the poverty in dimension of food.
Materials and Methods: In this research, by using data of families expense-income in Iranian statistics center after separation of village and city in the year of 1388, food poverty line in urban and rural has been estimated based on the Dr Pazhooyan method.
Results: The result of this study considering the fact that the number of household in rural is more than urban shows poverty line for urban family is equal to 1157354 Rial per month and total poverty line is also equal to 5017476 Rial and percentage of people below the poverty line is 29.5% and amount of food poverty line per month and total in rural family respectively is equal to 2015473 & 5856296 Rial and percentage of people under poverty line in village is equal to 6.5%.
Conclusion: overall, poverty’s situation in urban and rural in 1388 has increased.
