Introduction and Objective: This policy brief was prepared with the aim of providing an overview of the implementation status of the “Improving Nutrition of Rural and tribal Women in 2018-2021” program in rural areas of Iran, along with key considerations and policy recommendations for strengthening the program.

Materials and Methods: The present policy brief was derived from a study conducted to analyze and evaluate the program. This study was carried out in Tehran Province using a mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative). The target population included policymakers, program implementers, and rural women. Qualitative data were collected through program document review, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions with the target groups. Quantitative data were also gathered through a cross-sectional study conducted in rural areas of Tehran Province. The data were then subjected to statistical analysis.

Results: Based on the results obtained from the analysis and evaluation of the program, weaknesses in the program’s design and implementation, together with certain contextual barriers in rural areas, hindered the program from achieving its intended objectives. One of the most important weaknesses identified in the program was the lack of a designated financial budget, which created challenges in providing the resources and facilities required for implementation. According to the policy recommendations, the program requires further consideration in the areas of needs assessment, resources and facilities, inter-sectoral collaboration, sustainability and scale-up, as well as monitoring and evaluation.

Conclusion: The considerations and recommendations presented in this policy brief can serve as evidence for policymakers and planners in improving the design and implementation of the program.
